Kreedakul Grassroots Sports Nurture Program - An Initiative of Tata Trusts

Holistic development of all school going children through sports and nurturing the sports talent is the need of our time due to increasing sedentary lifestyles. Notably, previous studies have confirmed the relationship between physical activity and improved social-emotional indicators1 In addition to developing healthy life styles, acquiring social-emotional skills at a younger age can play an important role in improving their chances of social engagement and healthier mindsets, during youth and adulthood.

Jnana Prabodhini Kreedakul, Nigdi (JPK), a branch of Jnana Prabodhini, focusing on sports education, has been grooming children at the grassroots to become State and National winners, by integrating education and sports science, based on Ayurvedic principles, with sports, for the past 25 years. They now would like to extend their experience of scientific and systematic approach towards Sports participation, joyous engagement and talent development, to other interested institutes around Pune, who can set up grassroot centers in their neighboring villages (a Hub and spokes model).

Grassroots Kreedakul

Grassroots Kreedakul - Objective

● Implement structured physical activity and sports training embedded with life skills to actively involve children aged 8 to 14 in schools and communities within rural areas, fostering the development of healthy habits and ensuring positive experiences.
● Develop capacities of local bodies to set up and manage sustained sports training programs.
● Demonstrate Hub and spoke model set up in rural areas.

Grassroots Kreedakul - Methods

Setting up Hub and spoke model for developing athletes

Hub would be interested institutes (educational/community), already working in sports/interested in sports, having basic infrastructure in place to organise sports coaching. The institute would be led by passionate individuals/team who want to develop sports programs for engaging children from the rural areas, willing to learn and adapt and can anchor the program.

Spokes would be village level institutes (schools/academies/ community owned), having basic infrastructure to host grassroots sports training programs having children from the nearby areas willing to come and train in sports. 6-10 grassroot centre will be set up around each Hub. Existing training centres would be given preference.

A grant funding the entire program would be given by Tata Trusts to JPK.

JPK will further sub grant to each hub, the required funding to run the grassroot programs, based on predefined budgets.

Hub would be responsible for the program implementation in its own centre as well as development of the near by grassroot centres as they would be the real nurseries identifying true talent with the best ones moving to the Hub for next level of growth.

Hub would also be responsible for monitoring and sharing required documentation with JPK regarding the program.
